Project: Round Square scholarships for boys from vulnerable backgrounds

One of the first schools we worked with in our Round Square scholarship programme was the prestigious Cadet College Hasanabdal in Pakistan. Each year only about 115 boys from around 5,000 applicants are accepted into this boarding school which is steeped in history. Its alumni are called “Abdalians”, and they finance scholarships for talented students with limited financial means.

The school board places great emphasis on the equilibrium between students from well-off families and those from financially challenging circumstances, which is why the scholarship programme of the Aumund Foundation has been enjoying ongoing support since the beginning.

Syed Irfan was one of our first scholarship students. He will finish school this year and will then go on to study at a technical university. We were moved by his words of thanks for being nominated as a scholarship recipient, “On behalf of my mother and entire family, I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for selecting me. And I would like to congratulate you for all the social welfare work you are doing for a better future. I promise to you and myself that one fine day I will return this debt in one way or another. One day, I will support a student who is facing the same problems like me.”

We have no doubt that he will keep this promise.
