The asso­ciation is based in Wei­mar and works not only to improve dental care in rural areas in the west of Kenya, but also focuses on arran­ging spon­sor­ships in par­tic­ular for orphaned chil­dren, for their school and voca­tional edu­cation.

This is where the Aumund Found­ation gets involved. Since 2020 we have been fund­ing schol­arships for sec­ond­ary school attendees, train­ees in med­ical pro­fes­sions and, in accord­ance with the mis­sion of the asso­ciation, stu­dents of dental medi­cine. When we vis­ited Kenya in Octo­ber 2023 we had the oppor­tun­ity to meet our schol­arship recip­ients in per­son. We and the stu­dents were equally delighted to meet each other!

Our visit to the St. Michael Pre­par­atory and Orphan­age School in Koliech on this trip had far-reach­ing con­sequences. The impact of the impres­sions gained led to our decision to fin­ance the eagerly awaited con­ver­sion of the school into a board­ing school, which will enable approx­imately 150 orphaned chil­dren from the area to attend school from 2025.

The build­ing work was com­pleted on time at the end of 2024, so there was noth­ing to get in the way of the school start at the begin­ning of 2025. We wish “our” chil­dren much suc­cess on their new jour­ney!
