Con­tact with Diospi Suyana was made via the AUMUND agent in Peru. We were shocked by the appalling con­ditions in Peru dur­ing the Covid pan­demic and had approached him in the sum­mer of 2020 to ask for recom­mend­ations for eli­gible pro­ject part­ners in the health sec­tor. One of these recom­mend­ations was the mis­sion hos­pital estab­lished by Klaus Dieter and Mar­tina John, doc­tors from Ger­many, for the des­cend­ants of the Incas in Peru, the Quechuas, who have been liv­ing in poverty for gen­era­tions. Doc­tors from all over the world have been work­ing here for more than 25 years as volun­teers, with local sup­port work­ers who are paid, to coun­ter­act the high child mor­tal­ity, mal­nutri­tion and low life expect­ancy of this pop­ula­tion group.

Dur­ing his vis­its to Rhein­berg in the spring of 2023 and in autumn 2024 Dr John gave us a very impress­ive report on the work on site, which is sup­por­ted by a firm trust in God (the lit­eral mean­ing “Diospi Suyana”).

Whilst we have so far been help­ing with the pro­cure­ment of med­ical equip­ment, we have now also been able to com­bine the Found­ation’s object­ives in the areas of edu­cation and health with our future part­ner­ship with Diospi Suyana, because the Aumund Found­ation is con­trib­uting to the costs of edu­cat­ing young Per­uvian doc­tors at the mis­sion hos­pital.
