INTERPLAST-Stiftung

Our long-term project partner INTERPLAST Germany was established in 1980 based on the model of INTERPLAST USA. Operating teams from 14 German sectors provide pro bono plastic surgery in developing countries. Patients with congenital or acquired disorders (for example severe disfigurations from accidents, burns or war injuries) receive aid on site. INTERPLAST’s work also includes training courses for specialists in the areas of hygiene, anaesthetics, and plastic and reconstructive surgery.

In 2004 INTERPLAST Germany established the INTERPLAST Foundation to support longer term projects and ensure the sustainability of these projects.

Since 1998 INTERPLAST Germany has been running the SKM Hospital together with the Nepalese NGO Sushma Koirala Memorial Trust. It is around 20 km away from Kathmandu and was established as a hospital for the poor. Still today it retains its objective of treating the poor and needy free of charge.

A further aim has been to gradually train more and more local specialists, which has resulted in the hospital being staffed exclusively by Nepalese personnel since 2009. Because its mission is to care for the poor, the hospital is not able to fund itself independently, which is why the Aumund Foundation started supporting the running of the hospital in 2025.
