Project: See the future

In 2024, the foundation stone was laid for a long-term project by Aumund Foundation and Orbis in Bangladesh, which will be implemented from 2025 to 2029: “The future vision centres”.

This project will establish and upgrade Women-led Green Vision Centres across 13 districts in Bangladesh, providing essential eye care services to combat avoidable blindness in communities of need from 2025 to 2030. Partnering with six trusted secondary eye hospitals, Orbis will create 15 new vision centres at the intermediate level and upgrade 10 existing basic vision centres to intermediate level, all to be run by women and designed to be both environmentally and financially sustainable. The centres will deliver primary eye care services, screening for diabetic retinopathy and glaucoma, offer teleconsultation services, undertake community outreach services, and raise awareness to reach those in greatest need. The establishment and upgrade of 25 centres will ensure a total population of 2.5 million people will have access to sight-saving eye care. Over five years, nearly 800,000 children and adults will be screened through this project.
