Project: Surgical care for sick and injured children

FRIEDENSDORF-INTERNATION

This special funding partner has its headquarters very close to the Aumund Foundation. Friedensdorf [“Peace Village”] International, based in Dinslaken, provides medical aid and aftercare for sick and injured children from warzones and conflict regions, who cannot be treated in their home countries. During a site visit back in 2020 we were able to gain an insight into the organisation’s work and to see how around 90 children are cared for and looked after in a peaceful environment until they are fully recovered.

Since 2023 Friedensdorf has been financing surgical operations performed in two clinics in Kabul, Afghanistan, in cooperation with the Afghan Red Crescent, which is in charge of on-site coordination and monitoring.

More and more children in Afghanistan are suffering from osteomyelitis, and the costs for surgery and medication are out of reach for their families. If left untreated this kind of bone inflammation can lead to amputations, and can in some cases even be fatal. As the number of free treatments which can be provided in German clinics is decreasing all the time, local aid from Friedensdorf in Kabul is indispensable.

In 2025 the Aumund Foundation will finance operations for about 100 children in the surgical project in Kabul.
