Project: Humanitarian medical aid in the burns unit of Halibet Hospital, Asmara, Eritrea

Interplast Germany was established in 1980 following the model of Interplast USA. Operating teams from 14 German sectors provide pro bono plastic surgery in developing countries. Patients with congenital or acquired disorders (for example disfigurations from accidents, burns or war injuries) receive aid on site. Interplast’s work also includes training sessions for specialists in the areas of hygiene, anaesthetics and plastic and reconstructive surgery.

Since 2019 we have been supporting the Duisburg sector with its main project in Eritrea. Interplast carries out regular operations in the burns unit at the Halibet Hospital in Asmara. The voluntary commitment of these doctors gives their patients the chance to start a new life.

Prof. Heinrich Aumund, the founder of the com­pany, was re­spon­si­ble for the re­form of the tech­ni­cal uni­ver­si­ties at the Prussian Min­istry of Sci­ence from 1920 to 1926, and worked with great com­mit­ment to achieve a stronger con­nec­tion be­tween tech­nol­ogy and the econ­omy.
