Project: Round Square scholarships for children from vulnerable backgrounds

We implemented our Round Square scholarship programme at St. Constantine’s International School in Arusha, Tanzania in a special three-party configuration, as we are in close contact with the Malaika Children’s Friends children’s home which selects children for the programme and looks after them. Founded 20 years ago by two European women, the children’s home gives about 30 orphaned children a safe home and makes sure they complete school and vocational training, until they are able to make their own way in life.

Since 2020 the head of the orphans’ home has worked closely with the school board to carefully select children who show the potential and the personal ambition to complete their schooling at the aspirational St. Constantine’s International School. It is a joy for us to see how the idea of our Founder to change lives through education is implemented here.

Jutta Kassam, founder and head of Malaika Children’s Friends, says thankfully:

»We extend our sincere appreciation to the Foundation for its continuous and unconditional support in changing the lives of these young leaders. With your support we have been able to watch these lovely faces transform into promising leaders with great mindsets.«

“Well trained young people are the motor of society” was one of Franz-Walter Aumund’s firm beliefs, which is why funding of training and education has been one of the focal points of his philanthropic commitment from the beginning. This is underpinned in particular by the awarding of scholarships.

The best educational offering is worthless if children and young people are not physically capable of participating in it. Based on this experience the funding of health projects has become a new focus of Franz-Walter Aumund’s philanthropic commitment in recent years.
