Project: Operations for children with facial abnormalities
The DEVIEMED organisation, established just under 30 years ago by a Vietnamese oral-maxillofacial surgeon in Germany, became one of the first cooperation partners of the Aumund Foundation in 2019. Interdisciplinary medical teams go to Vietnam as volunteers twice a year to care for patients with congenital or acquired facial abnormalities. For example children with cleft palate are given the chance to lead an independent life without being marginalised, because they are able to take in food, learn to speak and therefore go to school. Because of the complexity of the defect, the treatment of “cleft children” requires a variety of specialist disciplines. DEVIEMED oral-maxillofacial surgeons work hand in hand with anaesthetists, orthodontists, ENT doctors, speech therapists and audiologists.
The happiness and gratitude of the parents who entrust their children to the experienced hands of the volunteers from DEVIEMED is motivation enough to carry out the next operation.
