Project: Round Square scholarships for children from vulnerable backgrounds
Since 2022 the Aumund Foundation has been awarding scholarships at The Lawrence School, located at the foot of the Himalayas in the far north of India. This co-ed boarding school was founded in 1847, and is considered to be the oldest of its kind in the world. A delegation from the Aumund Foundation visited in November 2024 and found out how clearly this history can be felt on the school campus. Our seven scholarship recipients were so proud to lead us through the school buildings, the school’s own printing works, and around the impressive grounds. Taking care of people from less privileged backgrounds is in the DNA of the school, and the students are immersed from the beginning, for example by looking after the children from a local orphanage.
The former headmaster of the school, Mr Himmat S. Dhillon, sums up the vision of the school as follows. To produce a well-rounded, self-confident, positive young person with the following attributes:
- An inquiring and fearless mind.
- Respect for others’ viewpoints.
- Belief in the values of social justice and equality.
- Leadership skills across the spectrum – social, political, commercial, and cultural.
- The ability to stand up for him or herself as well as for others.
We are proud to be able to contribute to this.
